OLH joins Library Publishing Coalition’s Strategic Affiliates Program
Posted by Dr Paula Clemente Vega on 29 September 2026
The Open Library of Humanities has joined the Library Publishing Coalition’s Strategic Affiliates Program, strengthening our connections with the international library and open access academic publishing community.
The Library Publishing Coalition is an independent, community-led membership association of academic and research libraries and library consortia engaged in scholarly publishing. LPC facilitates collaboration across the library publishing community and actively engages with aligned organisations, publishers, and service providers to strengthen and expand library-based publishing.
LPC members comprise a robust network of libraries committed to enhancing, promoting, and exploring this growing field. Its members include academic and research libraries and library consortia that have or are considering library publishing programs. Through its Strategic Affiliates Program, LPC also builds relationships with other membership-based peer organisations that share a commitment to an open, collaborative, and sustainable scholarly publishing ecosystem. Strategic affiliates include organisations such as the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), SPARC, and the Public Knowledge Project (PKP).
By joining LPC’s Strategic Affiliates Program, OLH will have more opportunities to engage closely with the library publishing community and contribute to areas of shared interest. This includes collaborative projects, the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and contributions to conversations about the future of scholarly communications and academic open access publishing. In addition, being part of this community provides an opportunity for OLH and LPC members to learn from one another and identify common goals, which is very important for OLH as we continue to develop sustainable, scholar-led and library-supported approaches to academic open access publishing.
Joining LPC’s Strategic Affiliates Program reflects our commitment to working collaboratively across the open scholarly communications ecosystem and to continuing to strengthen relationships between libraries, publishers, infrastructure providers and other organisations working toward a more open and equitable future for scholarly publishing.
About OLH: The Open Library of Humanities is an award-winning, academic-led publisher of 40 diamond open access journals based at Birkbeck, University of London. With initial funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and subsequent support from Arcadia, a charitable fund, the OLH covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium rather than any author fee. This funding mechanism enables equitable open access in the humanities disciplines, with charges neither to readers nor authors.
