Carnegie Mellon University joins OLH LPS model

We are extremely pleased to announce that Carnegie Mellon University has joined the Open Library of Humanities' Library Partnership Subsidy system. Recognized for academic excellence, groundbreaking research and interdisciplinary collaboration, Carnegie Mellon consistently ranks among the world's top universities.

The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With initial funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee. We welcome applications from journals that would like to discuss joining the platform.

Dr. Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed Carnegie Mellon: “I am thrilled that Carnegie Mellon has joined the OLH Library Partnership Subsidies model. It is clear that open access in the humanities cannot be achieved by the exact same route or even economic models as in the sciences. With the support of institutions like Carnegie Mellon, we will nonetheless work to secure the benefits of unlimited online dissemination and re-use for these disciplines.”

Keith Webster, Dean of Libraries, added “In recent years we have seen great support for open access from all parts of the disciplinary spectrum. The Open Library for the Humanities offers an academically rigorous approach for humanities scholars seeking an appropriate and open outlet for their work. If the academic community is to drive sustainable change in scholarly publishing, it is important for major research universities to lend whatever support is possible. With this in mind, I am delighted that Carnegie Mellon University has joined the OLH membership model. We look forward to participating in this important international venture.”
