Political Philosophy's first year at OLH

Posted by Dr Caroline Edwards on 5 March 2025

OLH journal Political Philosophy recently completed a successful first year of publishing. The journal launched in January 2024 following the collapse of the Journal of Political Philosophy, when Wiley removed its Editor in Chief Prof. Robert Goodin (Australian National University) and the journal's entire editorial board resigned.

As Leiter Reports: A Philosophy Blog noted in a piece published on 02 March 2025, Political Philosophy received 374 submissions in its first year. 7% of submissions were accepted and 99% of decisions were made within three months (92% within two months). The blog, which has an international following among the academic philosophy community, calls these review times "exemplary."

Since Political Philosophy joined us in 2024, we have expanded our philosophy titles at OLH. The journal's sister title at Wiley, Philosophy & Public Affairs, reformed at OLH under the new title of Free & Equal: A Journal of Ethics and Public Affairs, following the resignation of the journal's editorial board in protest at Wiley's commercialisation of their work. We also have another philosophy journal joining OLH in 2025 - watch this space for further announcements!

About OLH: The Open Library of Humanities is an award-winning, academic-led publisher of 34+ diamond open access journals based at Birkbeck, University of London. With initial funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and subsequent support from Arcadia, a charitable fund, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium rather than any author fee. This funding mechanism enables equitable open access in the humanities disciplines, with charges neither to readers nor authors.
