OLH annual report 2024-2025

Posted by Professor Caroline Edwards on 21 October 2025

We're delighted to be publishing our 2024-25 annual report, which outlines the fantastic successes of the entire OLH team over the past financial year from 01 August 2024 to 31 July 2025.

In this comprehensive report, you can find out what makes the OLH such a special organisation as well as a leading humanities publisher. 2024-25 has seen the OLH take a leadership role in advocating for a transition away from commercial academic journals publishing. Highlights detailed in the report include journal flips, editorial community events, accessibility development work, launching a new preprint server, collaborations with other organisations in the open access and open source communities, and new staff members joining our team.

The report also details OLH's finances for 2024-25. This reveals impressive growth of 25% in library memberships at a difficult time for universities. Funding received from our international consortium of library members increased this year by £126,877 to £636,702. We also received £153,543 from other university-based publishers for hosted services on our in-house open source publishing platform Janeway.

Given the extremely tough financial climate for university libraries, this is a remarkable achievement. It signals substantial support from libraries for the work that we do at the OLH and the leadership role we provide other publishers in transitioning academic journals away from commercial models to community-led nonprofit models.

Thank you to our supporting members who have made this work possible!
