Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

We are extremely pleased to announce that the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna has joined the Open Library of Humanities’ Library Partnership Subsidy system. The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna has been a leading European training center for artists for more than 300 years. As a university, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is especially dedicated to teaching processes based on research and art alike, i.e. on scientific and artistic research, the findings of which are integrated into the curricula in different ways and communicated to a wider public through exhibitions, symposia, lectures and a publication series. Conveying a complex understanding of art to a knowledge-based society is one of the main tasks of the Academy, apart from teaching students.

The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee.

Dr. Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna: “It is fantastic that the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna has generously decided to support the Open Library of Humanities. The fact that the Academy of the Fine Arts Vienna has been a pioneer of OA practices in Austria is also cause for celebration on our part, including its participation in the laudable Open Access Network Austria (OANA). With the help of institutions like the Academy we will expand our model for OA in the humanities”.

Existing journals wishing to join the platform should submit an initial enquiry to martin.eve@openlibhums.org.
