We are extremely pleased to announce that King’s College London has joined the Open Library of Humanities’ Library Partnership Subsidy system. King’s College London is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, learning and understanding in the service of society. In the 2013-4 QS international world rankings KCL was ranked as one of the top 20 universities in the world.

The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee.

Dr. Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed KCL: “I am delighted that King’s College London has joined the OLH model. Humanities scholarship at King’s is world renowned and open access can only serve to further that reputation. However, without a model that ensures equitable access to publish (as well as to read) we run the risk of the humanities falling behind. This is the challenge that OLH aims to address and with the help of institutions like KCL, we will make this a reality.”

Helen Cargill, Head of Library Research Support, added: “We are pleased to support this innovative enterprise in scholarly publishing and look forward to being involved in its future”.

Journals wishing to join the platform should submit an initial enquiry to martin.eve@openlibhums.org. After the September launch of the OLH, applications will be be subject to the platform’s joining procedure.
