The University of North Texas Libraries has become one of the newest members of the Open Library of Humanities Library Partnership Subsidy system. A program designed to make scholarly knowledge more accessible, the partnership eliminates costly article processing charges many researchers must pay before publishing in open-access journals.

“We’re pleased to offer an additional avenue for humanities researchers at UNT to be able connect their work with a global audience of scholars,” said Martin Halbert, dean of the UNT Libraries. “This model will help eliminate a barrier that can prevent some authors from publishing, and ultimately sharing important knowledge, data and research.”

The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee.

UNT is a leading research university that is nationally and internationally recognized for its scholarship in all fields — from fine arts to technology, humanities to life sciences, and music to entrepreneurship. UNT is committed to the creation and advancement of innovative research, art and scholarship.

Dr. Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed the University of North Texas: “It is superb that UNT has joined the OLH LPS model. UNT has a vibrant humanities community and, with the help of the institution, we aim to make the research work from these disciplines openly accessible to all in an equitable fashion, thereby showcasing their worth.”
