Royal Holloway, University of London joins OLH LPS model

We are extremely pleased to announce that Royal Holloway, University of London has joined the Open Library of Humanities’ Library Partnership Subsidy system. Royal Holloway is one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities, with 19 academic departments spanning the arts and humanities, sciences, social sciences, management and economics.

The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee.

Dr. Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed RHUL: “I am delighted that Royal Holloway has joined the Open Library of Humanities model. We know that open access is theoretically desirable in the humanities disciplines but the challenge has often been about how to implement this. Author fees are usually unaffordable here. With the help of institutions like RHUL, we will show a way to OA that avoids these problems.”

Professor Robert Eaglestone, English Department, Royal Holloway University of London, added: “Open Access models – such as the one so effectively and carefully developed by the Open Library of the Humanities – are the future for research publication in the humanities. I am absolutely delighted that Royal Holloway, home to so many leading art and humanities scholars, highly-rated departments and advanced Research Centres, has joined this forward-looking and vigorous international partnership”.
