West Texas A&M University joins OLH LPS model

We are extremely pleased to announce that West Texas A&M University has joined the Open Library of Humanities’ Library Partnership Subsidy system. West Texas A&M University (WTAMU), rich in history that dates to 1910, is the northernmost senior institution of higher learning in Texas. As the only bachelor’s and master’s degree-granting state university within a 100-mile radius, WTAMU’s primary service region extends beyond the Texas borders into the neighboring states of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With initial funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee.

Dr. Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed West Texas A&M: “It is wonderful that West Texas A&M is supporting the Open Library of Humanities. Open access is clearly of benefit to institutions of all shapes and sizes, across the entire disciplinary spectrum. That said, progress has been far slower in the humanities because a suitable, sustainable and scalable economic model has not been proposed. With the help of institutions like West Texas A&M, we hope to rectify that, offering a solution for OA in the humanities without the challenges of author-facing charges.”
