We are extremely pleased to announce that the University of Kansas (KU) has joined the Open Library of Humanities' Library Partnership Subsidy system. KU has been a leader in the open access movement for over a decade, with its faculty passing an open access policy in 2009, making it the first public university in the United States with such a policy. A member of the prestigious Association of American Universities since 1909, KU consistently earns high rankings for its academic programs.

The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee.

Dr. Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed Kansas: “It is my great pleasure to welcome the University of Kansas to the list of institutions supporting the OLH. As we approach 100 participating institutions, it is clear that open access in the humanities finds better support when we work together.”

Ada Emmett, director of KU Libraries Shulenburger Office of Scholarly Communication & Copyright,, added: “We are thrilled to join the distinguished league of universities around the world that are supporting OLH and like-minded projects to support open access to the scholarly literature—open for readers, and a system that is open for all authors.”
