West Virginia Wesleyan College joins OLH LPS funding model

We are extremely pleased to announce that West Virginia Wesleyan College has joined the Open Library of Humanities' Library Partnership Subsidy system. Founded in 1890, West Virginia Wesleyan College is a private residential college that is affiliated with The United Methodist Church. The College has 1,400 students and offers 44 majors and 34 minors along with graduate programs in athletic training, business administration, education, English creative writing, and nursing.
The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee.
Dr. Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed West Virginia Wesleyan College: “The benefits of open access for the humanities are many. But we should not expect the humanities to fund this by the same routes as the sciences. With institutions like West Virginia Wesleyan College, we will build a way to open access that is more equitable for the humanities.”
Paula McGrew, Director of Library Services, added: “This is a time in which the traditional model of authors, publishers, and purchasers is rapidly evolving, and West Virginia Wesleyan College is very pleased to join the OLH Library Partnership Subsidy model in this forward-thinking manner of sharing scholarship in ways that benefits all of those groups.”
