Groningen

We are extremely pleased to announce that the University of Groningen has joined the Open Library of Humanities' Library Partnership Subsidy system. Innovative, research-driven and rooted in the number-one knowledge hub of the Northern Netherlands, the University of Groningen is an internationally oriented university with 30,000 students.

The Open Library of Humanities is an academic-led, gold open-access publisher with no author-facing charges. With initial funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the platform covers its costs by payments from an international library consortium, rather than any kind of author fee.

Dr. Martin Paul Eve, a founder and academic project director of the OLH, welcomed Groningen: “I am delighted that the University of Groningen has joined the international consortium of libraries that support the OLH. The surge of support that we have seen is indicative of an appetite for new models to achieve open access in the humanities. I am very pleased that Groningen is to be part of our enterprise.”

Marjolein Nieboer MA, Director of the University Library , added: “I think it is very important that open access gets a strong foothold in the Humanities & Social Sciences. Our OLH Partnership is a promising addition to our support of other initiatives like OBP and Cogitatio. By joining OLH, we follow in the footsteps of Uppsala University, our partner in the U4 collaboration of research universities. We will also recommend the OLH partnership to our other U4 partners, Gent and Göttingen.”
