On Thursday 27th June, OLH Directors Dr Martin Eve and Dr Caroline Edwards were invited to deliver a guest lecture at Harvard University. The lecture was co-sponsored by Harvard's Berkman Center for Internet and Society and the Mahindra Humanities Center and was co-organised by David Armitage, Lloyd C. Blankfein Professor of History, and Marguerite Avery, Senior Acquisitions Editor at MIT Press for Science, Technology & Society.
Titled "Open Access and the Humanities," the lecture addressed the historical background of open access and its relevance within a rapidly changing humanities publishing landscape, discussing international challenges, issues of academic prestige, implicit standards of peer review and how these might be transformed, digital economics and possible business models, open licensing and digital methodologies, and economic models for open access monographs.
The Digital Arts & Humanities at Harvard University (DARTH) also published an interview with Martin in advance of the lecture.
